Emelie Pfaff graduated with a MM in Performance from Colorado State University (CSU) in 2017 and also holds a BM in Performance and a BM in Music Theory from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Conservatory of Music and Dance (UMKC). She has traveled all over the United States and Europe and has performed with groups such as the Fountain City Brass Band, the Athena Brass Band, Colorado Brass, The UMKC Wind Symphony, The CSU Wind Symphony and Orchestra, the St. Joseph Symphony, the Kinnor Philharmonic, and the Loveland Orchestra. She has performed at various Missouri and Colorado Music Educators Association Conferences and Mid-South Horn Conferences, as well as the International Women’s Brass Conference, the International Horn Conference, the International Tuba Euphonium Conference, the Collegiate Band Directors National Association, The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and Lieksa Brass Week. While playing with the Fountain City Brass Band, she has won 3 US Open Championships and one North American Brass Band Championship, and placed at the All England Masters and the Euro Brass Competition. Her primary teachers include Theresa McCalley, Ellen Campbell, Thomas Bacon, Martin Hackleman, and John McGuire. Throughout her education she has always played in brass quintets as well. Primary quintet coaches include Thomas Stein and Caleb Hudson. She is also a member of the National Association of Music Merchants Young Professionals (NAMMYP) and Smart Women in Music (SWIM). When she’s not playing horn, Emelie works for the Harmony Project in Los Angeles, an after-school music non-profit.
Emelie plays a custom YHR-871U French horn with a gold-plated Schilke 29 mouthpiece and a YAH-602S tenor horn with a Dennis Wick 5 mouthpiece.
